MagStand 9 vs 11, which one should I get?
This all depends on what you value most: portability or sturdiness?
Both MagStand sizes share the same pole diameters and leg geometry, so they feel identical in the hand and offer the same strength and build quality. The difference really comes down to your desired maximum height, base width, and how portable you need your professional stand to be.
The MagStand 11 is the naturally most stable option, especially for on-location work. Its wider base—42” maximum footprint width—provides greater stability than most traditional light stands and makes it the obvious choice for larger flashes, heavier modifiers, or situations where you want the strongest possible setup and maximum height. If you could only have one stand, this is the one we recommend!
The MagStand 9 prioritizes portability without sacrificing stability. It maintains a full 36” footprint width while packing down small enough to fit in most checked luggage sizes. If you primarily use smaller flashes and don’t need the extra height, it’s a fantastic blend of compact size and professional stability and covers most off-camera flash equipment setups with ease.

How does the MagStand compare to the competition?
The MagStand replaces bulky knobs and awkward leg systems in traditional light stand products and completely rethinks what the world’s best light stand should be: squeeze-button locks, fast-deploying legs, a configurable narrow or wide footprint, auto-locking telescoping sections, a removable center column that doubles as a handheld monopole, travel-friendly portability, an integrated mounting hook, magnetic leg connection system, future accessorization with our patent-pending leg channel system—all paired with a sleek beautiful design and durability for days. We may have missed a few details, but go check out the rest of our content above!

Can I add other MagMod items to my pledge?
The primary focus of this Kickstarter campaign is introducing the MagStand and it’s accessories, not to sell our existing product lineup. We stock all of our popular items on our website, photo retailers, and Amazon, and recommend you shop there if you need any of our current products!
Last updated: February 09, 2026 16:24
How do I alter my reward level, add more items, or cancel my pledge?
“The process of managing your pledge is super easy:
- From the MagStand Kickstarter page, click on ‘Manage My Pledge’ at the top.
- On the next page, click on ““Change Your Pledge”” if you want to switch reward levels or add add-on products to your overall pledge.
- To cancel, click on ‘Cancel Your Pledge””.
If you do not see the ““Manage My Pledge”” option available, you need to login to the Kickstarter account using the email associated with your pledge from which you backed the campaign.
I CAN’T CHANGE MY PLEDGE OR ADD ITEMS TO MY PLEDGE—WHY NOT?
If you followed the steps above and cannot adjust your pledge, it most likely means you selected Kickstarter’s ““Pledge Over Time”” functionality when you first backed the campaign. This Kickstarter-financed service allows you to pay for your pledge over time in installament payments, similar to what we offer on our website via Affirm.
When you use the ““Pledge Over Time”” you are entering into a financial services agreement with fixed terms with Kickstarter. Because of this, you may not be able to change the total amount of your desired rewards and may need to cancel the pledge entirely and pledge again.
If you only want to change what add-ons you want to include in your original pledge, one option would be to wait until after the campaign finishes and during our Fulfillment survey process you can add the additional items at that time (pending availability if they are not yet sold out for a specific shipping timeframe).
If you are having difficulty managing your pledge but you did not use Kickstarter’s ““Pledge Over Time”” feature, contact Kickstarter support: https://help.kickstarter.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=11783989160091”

What is the max load capacity of the MagStand?
We recommend a maximum payload of 14 lbs* when using the MagStand as a complete assembled light stand.
This recommendation is based on tipping stability at full height extension—the real limiting factor for most light stands. Structurally, the MagStand is capable of supporting far more, and in testing it matches or exceeds comparable light stands across multiple criteria: stability, tipping resistance, side-impact behavior, load creep resistance (maintaining position under sustained load), and vertical load-bearing strength.
Rather than publishing aggressive numbers that look good on paper, we recommend a conservative payload we’d confidently stand behind. That means more safety margin, safer setups, and greater peace of mind—especially when the stand is fully extended. Real working photographers consistently comment on how stable the MagStand feels in use, and feels stronger than the other light stands they have used.
*Based on pre-production units. Final specifications subject to refinement during production validation.

What is the max load capacity of the MagStand Monopole when detached from the legs?
We recommend a maximum payload of 7 lbs* when using the MagStand monopole detached from the legs.
Unlike the standard light stand mounted configuration where loads are primarily static, the monopole will be subject to dynamic loads—movement, repositioning, and the physical strain from mass and inertia of being hand-held at an extended length. These forces create different mechanical stresses than a stationary setup does, and most comparable boom pole lengths and materials are rated at a lower capacity.
The 7 lb recommendation represents what’s both structurally sound from our testing, and practically comfortable to wield. Most comparable boom poles are meant for mounting to a static light stand.
For context, the rated capacity is roughly equivalent to a larger photographic battery-powered strobe with a sizable softbox—a load most people find comfortable to hold and maneuver without fatigue or loss of control.
*Based on pre-production units. Final specifications subject to refinement during production validation.

Is the MagStand noisy to use?
The MagStand’s groove-locking mechanism invariably creates some audible feedback when extending or collapsing a telescoping section. While this does result in more sound than traditional smooth-pole stands, nearly every single beta-tester (out of dozens of content creators) commented that the sounds feel solid and very satisfying in normal use.

Does each MagStand come with the magnetic Leg Connector system?
The MagStand Leg Connector system is sold separately from each MagStand. However, in all of the reward levels that include 2 or more MagStands, one or more MagStand Leg Connector accessories are included depending on the reward level!
For every MagStand that you want to connect to another MagStand, you need (1) MagStand Leg Connector accessory—which includes (4) corresponding parts to facilitate the easy, magnetic connection system.
Last updated: February 09, 2026 16:25
How many MagStands can be connected together at the same time using the magnetic Leg Connector system?
Technically you could connect as many as you want, but you probably can’t carry 10 at a time ;)
We recommend connecting up to 3 at a time, with 2 at a time being the sweet spot. Connecting 4 or more becomes too large and heavy to transport with confidence.
Last updated: February 09, 2026 16:25
What accessories can I use with the MagStand legs?
The MagStand’s integrated leg channels currently support our magnetic Leg Connector system, and opens the door future add-on accessories like custom gear mounts, weight attachments, or other grip related accessories. We’d love to hear what accessories you would like to see implemented in the future!
Last updated: February 09, 2026 16:25
Do I need the magnetic Leg Connectors if I only want 1 Lightstand?
No, the MagStand Leg Connector accessory set is only intended for use with more than one MagStand. If you plan on adding more than one MagStand to your kit, we recommend purchasing the MagStand Leg Connector set once you buy your additional MagStands!

What is BackerKit?
BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!
The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.
How does BackerKit work?
After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.
I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?
The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.
Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.
To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.
How do I update my shipping address?
BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.
When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?
That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.
I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?
As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
